The path to Tranquility (spring)
9. No need to fear losing
Perhaps we all fear losing something important, such as a job, health, wealth, family, or friends, etc. Just thinking about the possibility of loss can make us feel anxious, sad, and even hopeless. In fact, fear of loss cannot change anything, but will cause us to fall into unnecessary trouble and pain.
There is no need to fear losing, because anything external does not belong to us. Whether it is a house, a loved one, or even life, some things in the world, we only have temporary use or custody rights at most. Compared with the vastness of the universe, these things are insignificant and cannot exist forever.
Fear of losing only hinders our acquisition of joy. Life is short, but we are still alive, so we should celebrate and be grateful right now. If we live in annoyance and fear because we are afraid of losing, then we have already lost everything at this moment.
Any fear will prevent us from achieving joy. Life is short, so we should celebrate and be grateful to be alive. If we live in fear because we are worried about losing, then at this moment we have lost everything. Only by being grateful can we own the world.
Whatever we fear, it will eventually make us afraid of love and close our hearts, living in darkness and loneliness. Because of fear, we refuse to try new things and live like fossils. It is also because of fear that we cannot wake up and can only wander between half-dream and half-awake.
Only by raising our consciousness can we unlock our inner shackles. Even if something is truly lost, we can all learn from it, gain wisdom, and grow. Being able to accept loss will give us the courage to face any test in life, becoming more determined and confident, and more independent.
The essence of consciousness is our knowledge and reliance to ourselves, which is very different from caution, because the essence of caution is the fear of making mistakes. Being cautious means we feel fear, which limits us from exploring unknown territory. However, consciousness allows us to think clearly, rely on reason and wisdom, and anticipate future dangers and opportunities.
As awareness increases, we are able to clearly see our gains and losses. By reducing fear, we can continue to grow and improve. However, if we are afraid of losing, then we will actually lose. Moreover, this loss is indeed no small matter. When we stop moving forward out of fear of losing, we lose precious time in our lives.
